Instagram Introduces Video Support

Its now official, the popular photo-sharing application owned by Facebook, Instagram, is now offering video support to its growing user base. As we reported yesterday leaks suggested that Instagram was preparing to take on Twitter-owned Vine with the introduction of video support. This is now a reality as the video below shows.

Watch The Video

Facebook held the Instagram event today in which they announced this new feature to its mobile application which is available on both Android and iOS devices. In the blog post released shortly after the event it read, “Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Video on Instagram and bring you another way to share your stories. When you go to take a photo on Instagram, you’ll now see a movie camera icon. Tap it to enter video mode, where you can take up to fifteen seconds of video through the Instagram camera.” The new video feature will also offer filters exclusive to video content.

This announcement changes a variety of elements for both Instagram and Vine. It is now possible that Vine will introduce image support and with Instagram offering an extra 9 seconds of video footage Vine may increase their video length. The competition between both Vine and Instagram has dramatically grown with recent statistics showing that more people were sharing Vines on Twitter than they were Instagram. This is likely the effect of Instagram’s drop in support for Twitter; however, the new video feature is certain to attract a entirely new user base as well as offer further functionality to its current user base.

Instagram ended their press release blog in saying they “can not wait to see what you create”. Video support will be available shortly to both Android and iOS users. Be sure to share your views in the comment section below.
